CS 592: Computer Science Colloquium Series
The colloquium
schedule is available online, and includes pointers to the
abstracts of the individual colloquia once they are available.
Official CS colloquia are Tuesdays or Thursdays at 3:30-4:30 in
ME 214 with a bias towards Thursdays.
Unofficial CS colloquia, or CS-relevant colloquia in other
departments, are included on the schedule for the convenience of the
UNM CS community.
Attending colloquia for fun and credit
Naturally anyone interested enough in computer science to pursue a
Ph.D. in the subject will attend most computer science colloquia.
For administrative reasons, grad students can get credit for doing
what they would do anyway: attending and thinking about colloquia.
Graduate students taking CS592 for credit are required to attend (or
view on tape) all the official colloquia, and to either present a
colloquium themselves or to write a short (two to four page) summary
of a particular colloquium. The choice of which colloquium to
summarize must be cleared with the instructor, and the summaries are
due at the end of the semester. Seminars which are not part of our
colloq schedule but are of relevance to CS can be chosen.
Summaries must be in machine-readable format, will be evaluated by a
faculty member in the area of the colloq in question, and will be made
available for public perusal in the UNM CS colloquium archives (both
physical and on the web.)
Grades for CS592 are credit/no-credit.
